Men’s Breakfast: Anthony Wayne in 2 Acts
Join this month’s Men’s breakfast where you will learn from Matt Forester about how Anthony Wayne led a distinguished career as a soldier and that his military career had two distinct acts. Bold, aggressive, daring, and competent as a soldier, he struggled with civilian life between the Revolutionary War and the American Indian Wars (a.k.a. American Frontier Wars) of the 1790s. When examining his historical legacy, we discover Wayne has created military innovations, inspired myth, and generated controversy. “Mad” Anthony, our local Founding Father, was one colorful character.
Matt Forester has restored the 1757 Welsh Quaker house in Tredyffrin that served as Anthony Wayne’s Quarters and also Pennsylvania HQ during the Valley Forge Encampment. Matt serves on the Board of Managers for the Pennsylvania Society of the Sons of the Revolution. He is also a VP for the Dr. Bodo Otto Family Association, a group that promotes the legacy of the Senior Surgeon of the Continental Army and the head of the Revolutionary War Hospital at Historic Yellow Springs. He was a Chief Investment Officer at BNY Mellon Advisors and several other investment firms. He lives in Wayne with his wife, Katherine and two boys, Matthew and Andrew.
