Beware Phishing Scams

June 3, 2024

It’s time again for a reminder about phishing scams! These scams are when a leader’s name is used as the from name on an email that is not actually theirs, and someone is trying to get something from you – usually your money.

Always start by double checking what email address something like this comes from. The sender’s name on an email can be set to anything anyone would like. The email address is harder to manipulate. We use stdavidschurch.org email addresses.

Don’t forget to watch out for strange or missing subject lines, too-short vague content, and poor grammar, spelling, and capitalization.
Also be suspicious of anything lacking a signature line.

What do you do if you got one of these? Start by stopping. Do not reply, click on links, or use any included phone numbers. If you think it could be a legitimate email, please contact the leader in question using a phone number listed on our website. Finally, always be certain to *report the email as phishing to your email service provider*. They can keep you from getting a repeat from the address, and block that email address from being used against others.

Constant vigilance is the best offense you have!
