“Where every purchase empowers and transforms lives”

The Gift Shop & Art Gallery and our bookshop website are outreach ministries of St. David’s Episcopal Church.

All proceeds are donated to St. David’s International Outreach to support education, feeding, clean water, and health and human services initiatives in Uganda, Guatemala, and Cuba. International Outreach can also be supported through monetary donations to the World Gifts giving program by donating online or by visiting the shop. Scroll down for more information on our impact. Ben Powley

Ben was born and raised on a small farm in upstate New York. He attended the New England School of Art in Boston, majoring in commercial art. After graduation he worked as an Art Director in New England and the Philadelphia area. After retirement, he attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, graduating with a Certificate. During his time at PAFA, he and his wife, Lynne, became Associates with the Holy Cross Monastery in West Park, NY. Holy Cross is an Episcopal Benedictine Monastery offering a wide variety of retreats. One of these retreats was an icon class led by Peter Pearson. He eventually took two classes with Pearson and since then has been continuing with his own icon writing. The purpose of an icon is to serve as a “window into heaven,” Some people find icons helpful in praying. Some find them a reminder of the “cloud of witnesses.” Ben hopes that, with these icons, people may grow closer to God.

Our Impact

Shop and Art Gallery proceeds help fund St. David’s International Outreach programs. We are currently serving needy children, families and communities in these countries:

  • Cuba – water purification systems
  • Guatemala – tuition aid, books and supplies
  • Uganda – schools, feeding programs, medical care and supplies

Our global reach goes beyond the three countries we currently support. Through our extensive fair-trade collection, we also help provide economic opportunity to artists and workers in many countries including Kenya, India, Haiti, Vietnam, Thailand, Peru and Central Asia.
