Rise, heart; thy Lord is risen. Sing is praise without delays… – George Herbert

The St. David’s Adult Choir and Chamber orchestra will perform an hour-long choral concert. The evening’s music features the masterpiece “Requiem, Opus 48” by Gabriel Fauré. The Fauré requiem is noted for being a clear departure from the more fear-based, judgmental view of death expressed in previous composers’ settings of the requiem text. Fauré composed this work with a gentle and confident faith in the goodness of God and the promise of the resurrection.

In addition, the evening will feature “Five Mystical Songs” by Ralph Vaughan Williams for baritone, chorus, harp, and organ. The songs are settings of sacred poems by George Herbert. Some may recognize Herbert’s poems from this series, “The Call” and “Antiphon” as they appear as texts in several hymnals, including The Hymnal 1982.

Soloists will be St. David’s section leaders, Robert Frazier, bass/baritone, and Ryan Colbert, soprano, with Dr. Elaine Sonnenberg Whitelock at the organ, and Dr. Clair Rozier conducting. Come experience this beautiful music in the context of the Easter season as we celebrate God’s gift of eternal life.

$20 suggested minimum donation per person will be collected at the event, or may be made online.

The concert will be followed by a reception honoring Dr. Clair Rozier’s 25 years of ministry at St. David’s. Please also save the date for Clair’s retirement celebration scheduled for Sunday, June 9. More details to come.
