The Brandywine School of Artists

For the first event in our Parish History and Archives Committee Summer series, Ken DeMarco will join us to talk about The Brandywine School of Artists, especially its founder, Howard Pyle, and the Wyeth family.

If it is rare for one artist to have their paintings placed in the permanent collections of several art museums and to become nationally and internationally famous, how rare is it for three artists, one from each of three successive generations of the same family, to achieve these things. For these and other reasons, N.C. Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth, and Jamie Wyeth are considered the first family of American art. Come and learn more about their unique lives and some of the important works of these extraordinarily talented artists who spent important years only a few miles away.

Ken DeMarco attended Harriton High School and graduated from University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. In History. He received his J.D. from Temple Law School after which he clerked for Judge Treddenick in the Court of Common Pleas for Montgomery County.  Ken spent 32 and1/2 years with the law firm of Post & Schell in Philadelphia where he started and chaired the Workers Compensation Department and served on the Executive Committee for 8 years.  In retirement, Ken teaches a number of art history courses for Main Line School Night. Tonight’s lecture is derived from one of his courses.
