Timeless

In oils and pastels, artists and friends, Louise Dusinberre and Kristi Gilfillan, use the places and scenes around them to create a sense of timelessness in their work. Both Louise and Kristi can be found exploring Chester County, Pennsylvania and Maryland’s Eastern Shore among other locations, for inspiration. Louise’s works have a tinge of loneliness to them; from an empty chair to garage doors left ajar. Kristi’s works abound with light and a sense of play. You’ll leave noticing that both artists made you feel just a bit nostalgic.

About the Artists:

Louise Dusinberre

Louise hunts for her subjects in the disappearing landscapes of Maryland’s Eastern Shore and Chester County Pennsylvania. Known for her poetic scenes touched with a mood of loneliness, she has found the pastel medium to be an evocative tool to express her images.

Rural America is a far cry from the fast-paced fashion world where, as a Senior Designer for Putumayo, a New York clothing company, she traveled extensively through India, Indonesia, and Europe. While gathering inspiration for seasonal collections, Louise was also gathering a love of color, line, and texture. That love would become incorporated in her award-winning pastels, often exhibited at Wayne Art Center, the Devon Horse Show, and galleries on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. “I came to love the paintings of Fairfield Porter, Wolf Kahn, Richard Diebenkorn, and Henri Matisse, all of whom have clean luminous color and strong design.”

Louise earned her BA in graphic design from the Moore College of Art and Design in 1989. She has served on the faculty of the Wayne Art Center for 17 years focusing on drawing, printmaking, and collage. Currently, Louise teaches at Historic Yellow Springs and at her home studio in Devon.

Kristi Gilfillan

Kristi’s love of art began as a young girl sneaking into her mother and grandmother’s art classes. She still paints alongside her mother, Joan Spillman, each week.

Graduating from Bucknell University with majors in studio art and mathematics, she continued to earn a M.S. in interior design from Drexel University. She then focused her creative eye on the three-dimensional design of interior spaces. After many years of working full-time as an interior designer, she began consulting to have more time to get back to painting.

Kristi began painting in oil fifteen years ago under the guidance of Elise Phillips and has gained incredible inspiration from her over the years. Much of her inspiration both en plein air and in the studio is drawn from touring the Chester County countryside, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, and Avalon. She enjoys doing a lot of commission work, painting dogs, horses, homes, wedding venues, and favorite vacation locations. These pieces are so specific and meaningful for the client!

Kristi is currently the chair of The Artists Circle Fine Art Group, a group of 22 local female artists, and a member of MAPAPA (Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Assoc.). She likes to support local non-profits by donating her artwork.

Kristi also shows her work at Wayne Art Center, Yellow Springs Art Show, the Devon Horse Show, The Artists Circle Art Show, Devon, and at her private studio.
