Leave Space for New Life

“So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; look, new things have come into being!” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Dear People of St. David’s,

I am writing you this week after I just changed another diaper. Parenthood is off to a great start! Marissa and I are beyond grateful for all the gifts, emails, text messages, and food (especially the food) we have received over the past week since Zion was born. Your kind words and gifts have helped sustain us during this time of newness. Our pattern of life has been altered and we are adjusting to the late nights, feedings, and time spent cuddling and kissing our new baby boy. There is a lot to be grateful for during this Easter season.

Another thing I am grateful for is the property of St. David’s! This is my favorite time of the year because this is when the daffodils and tulips bloom. It’s another sign of new life; a reminder of God’s beautiful creation that we get to witness. Every year they bring a little extra joy into my life. I love walking through the arboretum or the graveyard and seeing all that God has given us.

My prayer is that God continues to work through you in this Easter season. I hope that you leave extra space for new things to happen in your lives. As humans, we tend to want things to stay the same. We like the patterns and rituals of our lives. We like to keep things the same because it provides comfort and stability. It’s not fun to feel uncomfortable or taken away from our routines. However, as Christians, we are called to live a life of resurrection and newness. We are called to leave some space for new flowers to bloom and new routines to begin to develop.

Here at St. David’s, we are living into that newness with our Season of Creation. Throughout April, there are several ways to get involved: reading and reflecting upon scripture, learning from Indigenous cultures, listening to guest speakers, worshipping in our beautiful outdoor chapel in the arboretum, making a resurrection garden as a family, and children working on their own Eastertide care packages.

Our Sunday morning Adult & Youth Forum throughout April will focus on being good stewards of our beautiful 39-acre campus. You can find more information by clicking here. Please join us during this Season of Creation.

See you all in church!

Blessings,

The Rev. Thomas Szczerba, Jr.
Associate Rector
