When I was hungry you gave me food.
Dear St. David’s parishioners,
We have received many questions recently, wondering how St. David’s is responding to the elimination of SNAP benefits to our neighbors amidst the federal government shutdown. We are so grateful for your concern and want to both update you on how we are responding to the increased need for food and formula and to invite you into more.
St. David’s has been working closely with a number of its feeding ministry partners since the summer to develop ways to support growing needs. Ministry sites began to experience increased numbers because of rising food prices around the same time federal funding cuts began to impact food banks. In response, St. David’s began working under the guidance of our ministry partners to fill the gap with the help of dedicated volunteers and several generous donors.
In anticipation of growing needs for food, we have in place a food ordering and delivery system similar to what the food banks have used. Our congregation has been, and continues to be, extremely generous in response to specific types of food and formula donations which make a tremendous difference. In addition, a number of feeding ministries providing hot meals have restarted with feeding ministry partners at Chester Eastside and Cecil & Grace Bean’s at St. John’s in Norristown.
We are building on the strong relationships St. Davids already has with its feeding ministry partners in Ardmore, Chester, Norristown and Philadelphia. Members of St. David’s are in community with our neighbors, serving every week, listening and learning. These relationships enable us to respond during this period of crisis in a way that is informed by those in need.
If you would like to get more involved please visit our Outreach page for opportunities or contact the Rev. Tanya Regli. You may also donate to the Feeding Ministry Fund online here. Please be sure to type “Feeding Ministries” in the memo line. Thank you for your generosity of time and resources!
