St. David’s Cares Outreach Grant Program

2024 St. David’s Cares Outreach Grant Recipients!

St. David’s Episcopal Church announces 2024 outreach grant recipients.

This February, St. David’s Episcopal Church awarded $135,769 in grants to eight local organizations and three international Episcopal partners through its St. David’s Cares Grant program. These grants go to organizations within the Greater Philadelphia region or known international partners and are funded in part by the proceeds from the St. David’s Annual Church Fair and proceeds from the Gift Shop & Art Gallery at St. David’s.

This year’s St. David’s Cares grantees are:

Ardmore Food Pantry to fund weekly food services.

Episcopal Community Services toward expanding their food access programs, Mission Meals and Market.

Episcopal Legal Aid to cover deposition expenses for clients of their legal clinics.

Family Promise of the Main Line to sustain emergency shelter programming for graduates, including beds, replacing carpeting, and other financial assistance.

Stand with Iraqi Christians to fund a small business redevelopment initiative.

St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church, Northeast Philadelphia towards a copy machine, hymnals, and continued support of feeding and clothing ministries.

St. James School to support the Welcome Table ministries including food distribution, legal aid, 0% interest loans, adult education, neighborhood services.

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Chester to purchase food for their neighborhood feeding ministry.

In addition, grants were made to St. David’s international ministries, funded through proceeds from both St. David’s Fair and the Gift Shop & Art Gallery and World Gifts program. These grants are dispersed in partnership with the local Episcopal dioceses in their given countries:

To the Episcopal Diocese of Cuba to fund water maintenance supplies, food, medicine, rectory renovation/repairs, and building a vegetable garden.

To the Episcopal Diocese of Guatemala to fund a church vehicle, educational scholarships, to build a church wall, provide internet/phone services, and musical instruments.

To Trinity Children’s Center in Mpigi, Uganda to fund the lunches for children.

St. David’s Cares Grant applications are open each year in December, with applications reviewed in mid-January and grants announced in February. St. David’s outreach committee, made up of church members, and guided by Chairperson, Lois Remond and Associate Rector, the Rev. Thomas Szczerba, oversee the grant program, one part of St. David’s overall outreach impact in the local community. Preference for grants is given to organizations affiliated with the Episcopal (Anglican) Church; organizations that involve St. David’s parishioners, with the potential of increasing volunteer opportunities for parishioners; programs that promote or assist self-sufficiency; specific project needs that have a clear start and finish; and for organizations that are located within the Philadelphia, Delaware, Montgomery, Bucks, or Chester counties in Pennsylvania, or our international partner sites.

St. David’s Annual Country Fair is the longest continuously running church fair in the United States, now in its 173rd year. It is held on the first Saturday of October and 100% of its proceeds go to fund the St. David’s Cares Outreach Grants. Donations to its flea market, auction tent treasures, and other booths are ongoing. Please save the date for Saturday, October 5, 2024.
