End of Life Planning

Adults of all ages are encouraged to attend this program, presented by the Pastoral Care Commission, discussing end-of-life planning. It’s never too early to begin thinking through the process with some distance and a clear head. It will be a real gift to your next of kin down the line.

At this gathering, you’ll learn more about preparing documents for your next of kin, working with a funeral director, planning a funeral, finding grief support, and remembering your church in your will. Rodger McKinney of Chadwick and McKinney Funeral Home and Wally Stuard of Stuard Funeral Home will be our guests to discuss working with a funeral home and answer your questions. The Rev. Thomas Szczerba will speak about pre-planning a funeral service. Domenica Rafferty will speak about finding spiritual and emotional support following a death. Reid Blynn of our Vestry and Property Commission will discuss burial options in St. David’s graveyard and Jamie Arnold of St. David’s 1715 Society, will speak about bequests.

All participants will be provided with two written resources: The Episcopal Church Foundation’s End of Life Planning booklet, which contains templates for Medical Directives and Health Care Proxy, as well as basic Estate Planning and Preparing to write a Will; and St. David’s own publication: A Guide to Planning Burials, Funerals, and Memorial Services.
