Dear People of St. David’s,
As the children at St. David’s Episcopal Day School start the school year, they are exploring some of the “new beginnings” we find in scripture. For example, the start of the Gospel of Mark telling us of Jesus’ baptism and the beginning of his earthly ministry. Or the story in Matthew 4 when Jesus calls humble fishermen to be his disciples and start a new life.
New can be scary! Whether it be a toddler going off to preschool for the first time or common folk dropping everything they’ve known to follow Christ, the uncertainty of newness can be uncomfortable. But God calls us to new experiences every day, and those experiences help us grow.
This season also brings a return to formation opportunities on Sundays after the morning services. These offer a chance to renew our connection with each other and continue to grow in our knowledge of God through Christ. Through these relationships with each other, we all deepen our knowledge of Jesus.
In thinking about “new beginnings,” I am reminded of the extraordinary grace and love God has for us. So, as we all embrace this season of learning, I can’t help but think of the precious verses from Lamentations that remind us of God’s enduring love for us. I look forward to being reminded of that faithfulness in our daily walk together in Christ.
