So we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.

Dear People of St. David’s,
Over the last couple of weeks, I have had the honor and privilege of officiating three funeral services for members of our St. David’s community. When I first arrived at St. David’s, I would officiate funerals without really knowing the deceased or their families because I was so new to the parish. Now, after almost four years here, these services for people like the Rev. Sandy McCurdy, Ginny Brookins, and Rick Ill have been especially meaningful to me. I knew who these people were. I knew parts of their stories. We shared laughter together, and we shared communion together. I also knew how deeply they loved this St. David’s community of which they were a part.
My life and faith are richer because of people like Sandy, Ginny, and Rick, and because of all of you. There truly are not many churches like St. David’s that embody Christ-like love so faithfully and profoundly. We are a church on a mission to know God in Jesus Christ and to make Christ known to others. That making Christ known part especially resonates with me. As Christians, it feels like a sacred responsibility not to store up the treasures we have received, but to share them, because we recognize that we are part of something greater than ourselves.
There is no greater example of this than the sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism, both of which we will celebrate together this Sunday at St. David’s. At the 9:15 a.m. service, we will welcome five people through baptism, and at the 9:30 a.m. Young Family Service, we will celebrate one more baptism. These baptisms will help us celebrate the joy and power of Pentecost. Together, we get to be witnesses and participants in the two great sacraments given by Christ to his Church. It is a beautiful reminder that we are connected to one another and united in our life with Christ.
