Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God
something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
—Philippians 2:3–7
Dear People of St. David’s,
As I stood with families waiting for their turn to go in, they chatted about ways to make the groceries last to the end of the week, the challenges of raising teenagers, and of course the Eagles win at the Super Bowl. Getting a chance to talk with a few people from the neighborhood, both those serving and those receiving services, helped me to catch a glimpse of the tremendous work being done. The engagement of different ministry efforts with the people of Chester, such as the LeBus Bread Ministry, Chester Eastside, St. Mary’s, and other community partners, all brought home the impact working alongside each other can have on sustaining a community.
Driving on 95 on our way to other destinations we may see only a fleeting glance of Chester; perhaps the buildings that are falling down or abandoned storefronts. But once you are in relationship with each other your mindset changes. You see through the eyes of others, through the eyes of Christ, humbled by the love God has for every single one of us.
I look forward to serving in community with you.
Grace and Peace,
The Rev. Tanya Regli
Associate Rector
